<strong>Open to City of Wichita Only</strong><br><br>This is a professional environmental position that assists with the planning and coordination of the MS4/NPDES permit program. This position also coordinates a comprehensive program to ensure regulatory compliance for discharges of urban stormwater into streams, rivers, and lakes. This work helps keep local waters clean. The position will also assist with complaint management activities and some administrative support activities.<br><br><p data-pasted="true"><strong>Workdays and Hours - </strong>Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:00pm</p><p><strong>Bargaining Unit: </strong>Employee Council</p><p data-pasted="true"><strong>**Posting may close at any time **</strong></p><br><ul style="margin-bottom: 3pt;" data-pasted="true"><li>Analyzes data, systems, devices, equipment, and materials associated with stormwater regulation and stormwater protection issues, especially where the MS4/NPDES permit is involved.</li><li>Collects stormwater samples for analysis in association with the investigation of current conditions in the area.</li><li>Conducts sediment and erosion control inspections.</li><li>Conducts quarterly industrial site inspection of city facilities. </li><li>Reviews and approves stormwater construction permits for onsite and offsite post construction permitting. </li><li>Develops, updates, and maintains information databases.</li><li>Works with regulatory agencies to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.</li><li>Plans, develops, and conducts field investigations.</li><li>Evaluates plans and specifications for regulatory compliance for discharges of urban stormwater, and advises or issues instructions to industries and individuals on control of such discharges consistent with established regulation.</li><li>Compiles and composes information for presentations to professional and lay groups.</li><li>Interprets laws and regulations dealing with urban stormwater discharges, and advises or issues instruction to industries and individuals on control of such discharges consistent with established regulation.</li><li>Participates in complaint management, including receiving, investigating, and responding to citizen concerns, as well as documenting outcomes for future reference.</li><li>Completion of work assignments will require the operation of a vehicle.</li><li>The examples of work performed are not intended to be all-inclusive.</li><li>The City of Wichita reserves the right to assign additional responsibilities as needed.</li></ul><ul><li data-pasted="true">Considerable knowledge of sediment and erosion control principles related to urban stormwater discharges.</li><li>Considerable knowledge of commercial and industrial operations and the ability to apply scientific principles to control urban stormwater discharges when necessary.</li><li>Considerable knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations related to urban stormwater discharges and of environmental health principles related to all aspects of the total environment.</li><li>Ability to effectively plan, organize, and work as a self-starter with a small amount of oversite.</li><li>Ability to traverse uneven terrain, climb steps or ladders, and tolerate airborne environmental nuisances associated with building construction sites and commercial and industrial settings.</li><li>Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, employees of other departments, representatives of other organizations, City officials, and the public.</li><li>Ability to perform technical research work and to advise on problems.</li><li>Ability to use a computer to access, interpret, and record information.</li><li>Ability to quickly understand and respond to relevant federal and state regulations.</li><li>Ability to lean and reach as needed to read and interpret plans and documents from a print that may be as large as 36 by 48 inches with information printed as small as twenty characters per inch.</li><li>Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.</li><li>Ability to acquire and maintain a Kansas driver’s license.</li><li>An employee shall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.</li></ul>Offers of employment are contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical, which includes drug screening, and upon satisfactory evaluation of the results of a criminal record check.
